You can step out your door and be at one of several parks in less than 10 minutes by car. If you’d rather walk to a park or trailhead, several hiking opportunities are a 20-45 minute walk away.
The parks below are listed in order of distance (least to greatest) from our Kamloops apartments.
Greenstone Park (not to be confused with Greenstone Mountain Provincial Park) is an underappreciated little gem amongst Kamloops municipal parks. The hillside park is located south of Columbia Street about halfway between Lower Sahali and the West End. Greenstone doesn’t have hiking trails, but if you want to take in some amazing views, picnic on the grass, throw a frisbee, watch fireworks, or toboggan in winter, Greenstone is a quick getaway that provides some tranquility, right in the heart of Kamloops.
Kenna Cartwright Park
Kenna Cartwright Park was established in 1996 and is the largest municipal park in BC at about 800 hectares. The park provides panoramic views of Kamloops and beyond. With over 40 kilometres of nature trails for hiking and mountain biking, you could hike the park for years and still miss something. Ample parking is available at one of several trailheads (Hillside Drive entrance, Pacific Way, Home Depot, Bunker Road). Trails are rated in difficulty ranges from Easy to Extremely Difficult. Many “Easy” trails are available.
Peterson Creek Park
Peterson Creek Park is great for hiking and family picnics. Sitting on 100 hectares, the park has 10 kilometers of trails and a picnic area. The park’s two main access points are the Summit Drive entrance and downtown entrance.
Riverside Park has a 2.8 kilometer, paved walking path that takes you from the Japanese gardens to Pioneer Park. Walk the park, sit by the river’s edge, wade, or swim, take in some lawn bowling, pickleball or tennis, or cool off in the water park. Enjoy “Music in the Park” most summers at the Rotary Bandshell. Free parking available.
Tower Trail Lookout
Part of Kenna Cartwright Park, Tower Trail is 3.4 kilometers of easy hiking. Tower Trail is the perfect hike for families with children because the hike is easy going for youngsters and oldsters alike. Incredible views are your companion along the hike, and at the top you can rest at the lookout platform and take in the panoramic 360° view.
